May 18, 2005 - Clayton College & State University is now Clayton State University.
During the May 18 meeting of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG), Clayton State’s proposal to officially change the University’s name to Clayton State University was approved by the Board. The change is effective immediately.

April 25, 2005 - Clayton State University celebrated the 13th Annual Alumni Dinner and Meeting on Thursday, April 21, 2005 in the Atrium of the Harry S. Downs Center for Continuing Education overlooking the pristine Swan Lake on the university’s campus.
Steve Stephens Named Executive Assistant to the President
April 25, 2005 - Retired Brigadier General Robert L. “Steve” Stephens, Jr., has been appointed executive assistant to the president at Clayton State University.
Record Numbers Enroll in Clayton State’s Study Abroad Summer Program
April 25, 2005 - In a dramatic increase from the previous high of 14 participants during summer semester 2003, a record 31 students are packing their bags to participate in Clayton State’s summer 2005 study abroad program.
Wallace to Receive Eastern University Alumni Award
April 8, 2005 - Dr. Ray Wallace, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University, and professor of English, has been invited back to his alma mater, Eastern Illinois University (EIU), to receive a distinguished alumni award. On Apr. 14-16, 2005, EIU is celebrating the milestone of 50 years of graduate education, and to acknowledge this achievement, the EIU English Department has selected Wallace to be honored as the Outstanding English Graduate Alumnus of the past 50 years.
Clayton State Hosts Inaugural Meeting of WebBSIT Advisory Board, Apr. 15
April 8, 2005 - As one of the five University System of Georgia (USG) institutions participating in the online WebBSIT consortium, Clayton State is honored to host the Inaugural Meeting of the WebBSIT Advisory Board and supporting Governing and Operating boards on Apr. 15 from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on the University’s main campus in Morrow.

Heritage Bank Creates Scholarship for Clayton State Students
Heritage Bank has just made it a little easier for Clayton College & State University students to earn their college degree. The two institutions will come together Mar. 16 to announce a new scholarship, made possible by a $50,000 endowment from Heritage Bank.

Clayton State to Begin Health & Fitness Management Program, Fall 2005
Interested in a career in health or wellness, corporate fitness, or exercise science? Beginning fall 2005, Clayton State will introduce its latest baccalaureate degree program, Health & Fitness Management (HFM), part of the University’s Health Care Management department in the School of Health Sciences.
Department of Nursing Receives Positive Site Visit Report
Clayton State University’s School of Health Science’s Department of Nursing received a positive review after a Feb. 2-4 accreditation site visit by CCNE, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The site visitors’ report will be added to the department’s self-study and evaluated further by the Commission. Final action on the accreditation is anticipated in October.
Clayton State Sets Seventh Straight Spring Semester Enrollment Record
Clayton State University’s enrollment for the spring 2005 semester is 5,920, a new record for a spring term at Clayton State.
The previous spring mark, set in 2004, was 5,888. In fact, the current total marks the seventh consecutive year that Clayton State has increased its spring enrollment.

Spring 2000 – 4,447
Spring 2001 – 4,700
Spring 2002 – 4,748
Spring 2003 – 5,572
Spring 2004 – 5,888
Spring 2005 – 5,920
That represents a growth of 1,724 students over seven years, or a 41 percent increase since 1998.
Several factors play into Clayton State’s student boom, not the least of which is the University’s growing list of baccalaureate programs that better serve the needs of the population of the Southern Crescent, and also provide students with quick entry to… or quick advancement in… the job market.
Department of Nursing Receives Positive Site Visit Report

The Clayton State University Opera will perform the Tony Award winning musical “A Little Night Music” on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. in acclaimed performance venue Spivey Hall located on the Clayton State main campus in Morrow.

Clayton State Begins Faculty Exchange Program with College in India
Clayton State Professor of History and Director of International Education Dr. Robert Welborn recently gave a lecture on President Bush and his second term in office. But his audience wasn’t his typical Clayton State student body. Welborn was half a world away, participating in a faculty exchange program with Smt. Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College (CSMC) outside of Mumbai, India.

Integrative Studies Majors to Implement Recycling Program on Campus
The Clayton State University Integrative Studies 4500 Capstone Class presented its senior project to President Dr. Thomas K. Harden and his Cabinet on Wednesday, Jan. 19. The project, "A Proposal to Promote Environmental Cleanliness through Recycling, Reduction, and Reuse at Clayton State University," was very well received by everyone in attendance.
Division of Campus Life Reorganizes Counseling and Career Services
Dr. Kevin Rome, Clayton State vice president for Campus Life, has announced organizational changes within the University’s Division of Campus Life. The unit formerly known as Counseling and Career Services has been separated into two offices: Counseling Services and Career Services.

Clayton State Dedicates University Center
The culmination of seven years of planning, construction and anticipation came today when Clayton State University dedicated its signature building -- the University Center -- a building that is one-of-a-kind in higher education in the State of Georgia.

Clayton State Professor Joyce Swofford Retires After 35 Years of Teaching

Clayton State Ready to Start Phase Two of Public/Private Partnership to Ease State Shortage of Healthcare Workers
Georgia’s effort to meet a growing shortage of healthcare workers received a “booster shot” with the announcement today by University System of Georgia (USG) officials of the distribution of $3.8 million, $2.05 million in state funding and $1.75 million in private funding, to continue increasing the production of allied-health professionals statewide. As was the case with the first phase, Clayton State University and several healthcare providers in Clayton, Henry, Fayette and Fulton counties will be an integral part of the initiative.

Clayton State’s President Joins ARCHE’s Government Relations Committee
On July 1, Clayton State’s President Dr. Thomas K. Harden will join the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education’s (ARCHE) Government Relations Committee for the 2004-05 academic year.

Linking American History Holds First Meeting
The first meeting of Linking American History: Past to Present was held June 14 at Clayton State's Harry S. Downs Center for Continuing Education. The program, funded entirely by a $984,115 Teaching American History grant from the U.S. Department of Education, will focus on increasing teacher's knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the period from 1945 to present.

Cygnet, the Clayton State University’s School of Arts & Sciences’ new literary arts magazine featuring current Clayton State student artists and writers, was formally debuted during the Faculty/Staff Poetrypalooza event on Apr. 14 at the Clayton State Theater.
Clayton State to Hold 34th Spring Commencement May 8
Clayton State University will hold its 34th Annual Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 8, 2004 in the University’s Athletics & Fitness Center. For the third consecutive year, two ceremonies will be held to accommodate the graduates and their guests. S. Truett Cathy, founder and chairman of Chick-fil-A, Inc., will be the Commencement speaker at both the 9 a.m. and noon ceremonies. The 9 a.m. ceremony will be for students from the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences, the School of Arts & Sciences, and the School of Technology. The noon ceremony will be for students from the Schools of Business and Health Sciences. Both ceremonies will be presided over by Clayton State President Dr. Thomas K. Harden.
Board of Regents Approves Political Science Degree for Clayton State
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, meeting in Cochran, Ga., earlier this week, has approved the establishment of a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in the School of Arts & Sciences at Clayton State University.

Clayton State to Offer Information Technology Security in Fall
Networking is an essential component of information systems, so naturally security has always been a major part of the Network Planning Design and Management major in the Bachelor of Information Technology degree at Clayton State. Beginning this fall semester, students will no longer declare Network Planning Design and Management… it is now called Information Technology Security. Though networking remains a major theme in the new track, security has become the primary focus.
